Bentleigh Balcony Transformed With Artificial Hanging Plants

A west-facing family home in Bentleigh needed a low-maintenance greenery solution to soften the balcony above the garage and create a more complete, welcoming front entrance.

Using premium artificial hanging plants and UV-resistant greenery, Designer Vertical Gardens transformed a plain facade into a softer, greener and more inviting home frontage.

Our Client

The client owns a west-facing home in Bentleigh, Melbourne. While the property already featured established landscaping around the entrance, the upper balcony above the garage felt plain and disconnected from the surrounding greenery.

The objective was to introduce year-round greenery and soften the facade without requiring ongoing watering, pruning or plant replacement.

The Design Challenge

Balcony gardens can often become difficult to maintain due to heat exposure, limited irrigation access and ongoing upkeep requirements.

The client wanted a solution using artificial plants and artificial hanging stems and vines that would remain visually full and attractive while keeping maintenance to a minimum.

The Solution

Designer Vertical Gardens created a layered balcony greenery installation using premium UV-resistant hanging plants arranged across planter boxes positioned evenly along the balcony edge.

Multiple foliage varieties were combined to create a more natural cascading effect with varied movement, depth and texture.

Key outcome: a premium low-maintenance balcony garden with improved street appeal and year-round greenery.

Products Used

The installation featured a combination of artificial hanging pearls, UV-resistant Ruscus hanging plants, and succulent bead hanging plants.

UV-resistant materials were selected specifically for outdoor exposure to help minimise fading and preserve long-term visual quality.

Why Artificial Hanging Plants Worked

  • No daily watering or irrigation required
  • No messy leaf drop or soil runoff
  • No root damage or drainage concerns
  • Improved the home's street appeal
  • Softened the hard architectural balcony edge
  • Created a lush greener facade year-round

Design Insight

For facade and balcony projects, combining several hanging foliage styles creates a more realistic and premium finish compared with repeating a single plant type.

Mixing trailing greenery with upright foliage also helps create stronger depth and movement from street level viewing angles.
