From Failing Olive Trees to a Permanent Poolside Green Wall
Pool filters were blocking almost every week because of a row of olive trees beside this Sydney swimming pool. Leaves collected across the water surface, birds gathered in the branches above the pool, and sections of the trees had already started thinning along the fence line.
The client wanted full greenery across the boundary fence without seasonal die-off, regular pruning, or ongoing pool contamination. Designer Vertical Gardens replaced the trees with Luxury Flowering White Jasmine vertical garden panels, installed across a prepared mesh backing fixed to the existing perforated metal fence.

Full fence coverage with no leaf drop, no patchy growth, and reduced pool cleaning.
The original olive trees created uneven coverage along the fence because different sections declined at different times of year. The lower branches also exposed large visible gaps between trunks, leaving the fence visually incomplete from several angles around the pool area.
The replacement installation created continuous coverage across the entire boundary. The layered foliage structure concealed the fence frame fully, while the white floral detailing reduced the flat appearance common in single-tone artificial greenery. The pool area now holds the same appearance across every season, without further landscape maintenance.
Step-by-step documentation of the pool fence transformation — from existing planting removal through to the completed artificial green wall installation.
The original planting left visible gaps between trunks and inconsistent canopy coverage along the fence line.
Galvanised mesh sheets were fixed across the perforated metal frame to create a stable mounting surface for the panels.

Panels were secured to the mesh using zip ties and clipped together edge-to-edge during installation.
The completed wall delivered uninterrupted foliage coverage across the full fence length, with no visible panel separation.
The installation created a consistent backdrop along the entire pool boundary, from one end of the outdoor area to the other.
The final result combined dense greenery, white floral accents, and complete fence concealment across the full structure.
The fence line created three ongoing issues. Olive leaves repeatedly entered the swimming pool and affected filtration performance. Birds gathering in the trees left droppings around the water and paving.
Several sections of the planting had also declined, creating inconsistent density across the fence. The client wanted a permanent replacement that maintained complete coverage without further upkeep.
The installation needed to conceal the perforated fence completely while maintaining a natural foliage depth across the full width of the boundary. The surface also needed enough variation in texture and tone to avoid a flat artificial finish beside the pool and surrounding hardscape materials.
Designer Vertical Gardens selected the Luxury Flowering White Jasmine panel because its layered foliage structure concealed the fence backing fully without exposing panel joins.
The integrated white flowering detail also introduced tonal contrast across the surface, which worked well against the white fencing, gravel base, and blue pool water.
The existing fence structure could not support direct panel installation because of its open perforated design. Galvanised mesh sheets with 5cm spacing were first fixed across the frame using fencing brackets to create a continuous surface.
Once the mesh was secured, panels were attached with zip ties threaded through the integrated backing grid and mesh wire. Adjacent panels were clipped together before final tightening to maintain alignment and minimise visible joins across the installation.
The completed installation removed the original maintenance issues while creating full visual coverage across the fence line. The pool area no longer receives leaf contamination from overhead planting, and the boundary now maintains a consistent appearance without thinning sections or exposed gaps.
The wall also reduced visual distraction across the outdoor area by replacing uneven tree spacing with one continuous surface from end to end.
The project required full fence coverage without root growth, irrigation, pruning, or seasonal inconsistency. Artificial panels solved each issue directly while allowing installation onto the existing fence structure through mesh preparation rather than structural replacement.
Mesh prevents panels from sinking into perforated sections or sitting unevenly across unsupported gaps
Starting from a single top corner keeps panel alignment consistent across long fence runs
Using several zip ties across each panel prevents movement during outdoor exposure
This keeps foliage density consistent and reduces visible separation between panels
Additional panel allowance helps maintain clean edges around posts, corners, and fence ends
Yes. UV-tested LDPE panels are suitable for outdoor pool environments exposed to sun, humidity, and reflected heat.
The fence had an open perforated structure that required a continuous backing surface for stable panel installation.
No. Artificial panels do not provide nesting material, food sources, or plant growth that attracts wildlife.
Mesh sheets are secured to the frame first, followed by panel attachment using zip ties through the integrated backing grid.
